Tallinn in the North
Do Lithuanians live in Estonia? They do. I did too. I had opportunity to live in Tallinn for about 8 months only, but I must admit that this city is awesome!
The good vibe
One day I got job offer in Tallinn and I took it. That was a brilliant decision! First of all the position involved working with customized WordPress (I built this blog with same approach) and secondly – Tallinn is really awesome city for foreigners!
Tallinn is relatively close to Klaipėda, where I live now, so it can be reached by an 8-9 hours drive, and even if you do not plan to relocate there, visiting this city for at least a weekend is a must.
Tourism and Finish drinkers
Whenever I am remembering Tallinn there is always a cliché that city center is full of drunk persons from Finland. Nope, it’s not entirely true. While night life is really awesome in the cozy city center, Tallinn is not only about drinking.
I lived there with a family, so can assure that you will find everything you need – parks, interesting landmarks, seaside, snow, and proper places to eat.
Oh, and the public transport is free for residents (I guess not applicable to tourists, though).
The people
Tallinn is truly international city – I am able to speak English (well, Captain Obvious) and Russian, so there were no problems with communication. Locals are used to foreigners, so you do not feel a stranger in streets, smaller shops or governmental institutions.
What about Estonians and office culture? I worked only in one company, but damn it was awesome! I completely understand that bearded and laud Lithuanian might look a bit scary in the North, but everyone was tolerant enough to laugh from my dark jokes and join me in daily sessions of chaos. Drive there, feel it, enjoy it
Maybe you have a chance to go to Estonia? Please do this! Walk in a city center, eat burger, check out landmarks and visit museums. Get drunk at the evening or take a cake with your family. Tallinn is a tourism friendly spot!
